please help

Im overseas with my 19 month old visiting my parents. for the first 2 weeks i had no problems putting my 19 month old son to sleep, i had to stay outside the room where he ould see me and he would fall asleep.
The last week ha been a NIGHTMARE!! He wont go to sleep unless he gets lots of cuddles and i literally hang over his bed. if i sit down right next to him he gets up calling for me and as soon as i stand up again he alms down.. he also wakes up screaming, crying hysterically at night and a couple of nights i couldnt even omfort him, he would just cry and cry for 30 mins.. i felt so bad as nothing i did would calm him down, after 3 hours of just sitting on the couch with him he finally was tired and i had to put him in bed with me as he would scream if i tried to put him back in his cot.

Yesterday it was easier to put him to bed, didnt cry for that long but i need to be right next to him.. then he woke up at 1.30 crying for me, went in his room and within 10 mins he fell asleep, then he woke up again 1 hour later, did the same and went dowwn. Then this time he woke up after 10 min but as soon as i came in he went down, he didnt fall asleep and kept getting up to see if i was there and alling for me. i then slept on a matress in his room but he was really struggeling and keept getting up every 5-10 min calling for me and even though i was 1 meter away from him, unless i stodd right over his crib he wouldnt go down..this kept on for over 1 hour until 4.30 where he finally fell asleep and slept till 7 am..

I dont know whats going on!! he never used to be like this, at home i would just put him down and leave and thats it.

I tried to let him cry for a bit to see if he would go bak to sleep but he wouldnt he would ry and cry, he also isnt hungry, not teething ,wet diaper or anything else.

pls pls someone shed any light- what should i do!

thanks for the reply flydiver We follow the same routines as back home so no difference...its really hard to watch, googled on the net and came up with night terror, which i think its whats going on. I really hope u will have smooth sailing with urs as not being able to do anything while he cries is very stressful and painful..

Oh I feel for you. My LO is travelling all over the globe in July and now that he's mobile and talking I'm dreading what you are going through. Have you tried playing the same music or lullabys each night? It might help. We play the same CDs very night no matter where we are, and I think our LO loves the familiarity and consistency that it brings to bed time. I even play it from an iPod to settle him on the plane. Might be worth a try? Good luck.
