I had two who rarely slept more than 15 mins at a time. We walked the malls a lot!! Got out and about as much as possible. I also bought one of these round things like a baby walker but they don't move. Mine were both in it from 2 months old and it freed me up to cook dinner etc as they would play happily for ages in it.
All my friends seemed to have babies that slept hours at a time..mine never did..I used to get so jealous lol.
Saying that, they are now 9 and 12 and will quite happily sleep till 9am or later in hols even if they go to bed at 8 or 9pm.
It does get easier...
Thanks ladies definitely taking him out helps I think I just get the fear when he starts crying if I'm out that everyone will stare! :) good tip on the balloon going to try that out!
Don't worry Debz31, anyone who's had a baby (unless they were super lucky and theirs was the calm sleeping angel model) know what it's like once they start crying in public. I went through a good 5 months before things improved and in the meantime I got a few strange looks on the street or at the mall when I couldn't calm DD down. As for the sleeping, well yes it would be great if they slept 20 hrs a day at this age wouldn't it, but again mine went through a period from about 1 month to 4 months that she would hardly sleep during the day; both myself and the nanny were spending hours and hours trying to get her to sleep to get a 10min nap in the end. Don't stress over it, you'll learn to go with your son's "flow" unless of course you're of the Gina Ford school of thought:-)

Know the feeling! My darling boy absolutely loved balloons so we used to attach one while he lay on a mat or in the bouncer (using a wrist rattle) to an arm or leg ...10mins each limb gave us time to go to the loo/shovel food at a little less than breakneck speed lol and he would happily kick around. It's a cheap but fab toy but just gotta keep an eye baby as its got a cord. Other options, though my boy slept in the Moses basket in our room, he would spend 10mins watching the mobile in his cot...and it's a safe place to leave him while I showered. He also liked books that had striking shapes/black on white pictures....hope that helps
3 month olds should be sleeping a lot of the time. Shower when baby is napping. If you need to get things done and he wants to be held, get a baby carrier and wear him. That will allow you to have your hands free. Get out and about--the weather is getting cooler so take him out for walks for a change of scenery at least early in the day and in the later afternoon/evening.
Can anyone advice how to keep a 3 month entertained. As my son hates being put down for too long. So he will play on his gym or sit in his rocker for 5-10 mins but then is bored and wants to be picked up. Which is hard as end up not doing anything ie having a shower etc. any ideas?
