Hi Ladies, I have seen threads on this topic previously but can never seem to find anything using the search function! I'm flying to Syd with Emirates on Sunday with my 4mo baby & I would love some advice from anyone who has done the same flight.

I know to feed on take off & landing & I'm taking a baby carrier with me + a few changes of clothes for both if us but other than that I'm a bit clueless. Should I take my Quinny Buzz with me or buy a cheap stroller when I get there? If I take my Maxi Cosi Cabrio will it get confiscated at customs (have read this in a previous post)? Do I need to take extra blankets for the bassinet or are the ones they provide suitable? Do I need a padded changing matt or will my skip hop be enough (it has light padding for the head only)? Any tips on getting through arrivals & departures at each airport???

I'm starting to feel very nervous so any advice would be appreciated!!! TIA x

I've not flown to SYD but went to the UK recently. I took the buzz through with me and the maxi cosi seat onboard. They will let the baby sit in it for take off and landing with a seat belt on if it has a fit for flight stamp on. Mine didn't but I had it on the seat next to me and did use it during flight as she was too distracted to sleep in the bassinet. I took my own blankets but lined the bassinet with 3 of the adult flight blankets by just taking them out of the wrapper. The way they are folded means 3 fit next to each other in the bottom of the bassinet to make a softer mattress. I then put my own blankets over the top and draped them over the sides, the material of the bassinet is quite itchy. I took toys and a girraffe, from the rainforest gym, which dd loves, which i stuck between the wall and the bassinet, she could then reach up to it, talk to it etc. there were 3 babies on my outbound and 2 on the return, not one of them cried, they all behaved fabulously!! Changing was a bit of a nightmare but if you can do it super quick, you can do it in the bassinet, the toilet changing table requires a bit of dexterity but its fine. Changes of baby outfit, milk etc and a good nights sleep the night before! Good luck! edited by Mau10 on 14/12/2012

4 months is a dream, compared to when they get older! I flew long haul by myself when my LO was 11wks & 17weeks. Just take your breasts, a dummy (if you use one), changes of clothes for both of you, lots of wipes & nappies. I do take my own muslin (good to swaddle but also if you need to block out light) & small pram blanket as the ones on the plain are quite scratchy. It can also be handy to have a baby bjorn/carrier whilst you're juggling to get through baggage etc. Whenever I go to Aus, I take my Maxi Cosi Cabriofix, never been questioned about it & use it in the car even though it's not legal there. I also borrow lots of items from friends & family (stroller, bassinet, toys, travel cot etc). Your travel changemat should be fine but it's quite sqeezy in thevtiny toilets to change them. It's not relaxing to fly with a baby by yourself as you get no proper rest yourself and will be exhausted after 14hrs... But it is easier when they're young. I also found it takes them a while to get off to sleep and I had to rock/jiggle quite a while for both my kids... HTH & good luck!

This thread should help, try not to worry, 4 months is normally a very easy age to fly with, it's when they get moving things often get trickier! http://www.expatwoman.com/forum/messages.aspx?TopicID=194857
