I have a 2 week old and she is a little guzzler and takes approx 20 mins to finish a bottle of 90ml , is this average or is she too fast? i have read that maybe the teet is not suitable for her , we are using Avent 0 months bottles and teets.
Any suggestions?

well i must admit that quite a bit of the milk manages to spill down the chin , but i think thats down to her taking the milk so fast and not swallowing quick enough coz she is a greedy little madam. I also try and stop her midfeed to try and burp but this does not go down well..haha

Think my boy nearly 3 weeks is pretty quick probably quicker than 20 mins but I do stop him around every ounce (he has around 3/4 ounces) to burp (which really annoys him) if I didn't I think he'd sick the whole lot back up as that's what my DD did if I just let her go for it. Yip that was the reasoning behind people suggest I stop her but she was never once sick... stomach of steel or a greedy little madam hehe No wonder they dont come with a Manual you could never use the same one for any two babies :) Just to keep us on our toes and guessing!

How long is a piece of string :) My DD was and still is a guzzler and at 9 months was happily draining 180ml bottles in about 10 mins, she would then sit up and give a loud belch. Her little friends on the other hand could take between 30-45mins to finish the same amount. I guess like adults we all have different appetites. People suggested to me that when she was tiny I shouldnt let her drink so quickly and should take the bottle off her and let her have rests whilst drinking her bottle. But when i tried this she just screamed the place down until I put the bottle back in her mouth so abondaned that plan and went back to speed drinking. It never caused her any probs and she still guzzles all her drinks :) I think if the teet was the wrong flow ie too fast she would be choking and milk would be dribbling all down her chin edited by Maid Marion on 03/01/2011 edited by Maid Marion on 03/01/2011
