Hi Ladies,
Wanted to buy the Pump in style Medela pump once i am back to work coz its double and electric. In the market here, its really expensive. I have a neighbour who is selling hers, she has hardly used it 2-3 times since she dint get much milk to pump so she stopped using it. She also has the original packaging and all. I have been reading online that these pumps are meant for single users and should not be reused, even sterilizing them is not sufficient.
Do any of u ladies have any info on this? Is it sensible to buy a new or used pump?

TIA

technically and "officially", no, but in the circumstance you relate, then tbh probably yes, its ok. I'm assuming she doesnt have AIDs or Hepatitis etc. You can buy brand new tubing, valves etc very cheaply so its only the motor part that isn't new. I would happily buy a second hand pump from someone I knew and just replace the accessories.

It's your decision, but the reason they are recommended as a single user pump is that there is the possibility that milk can travel down the tubes and into the pump itself where there is no way to get it out/clean it. Even if the pump was only used once, there is a possibility ( not necessarily a likelyhood) that it could have happened. There is a pump available here in Dubai called the Ameda which is a "closed system" ie milk can't get into the pump part. It's sold direct to clients by the distributor and used to cost less than the basic electric Medela, although I understand the price has recently increased.
