At last, after 1 hour of crying (with regular visits to cuddle, pat, sing) from me.. DD is asleep without her pacifier. I cut a tiny bit of the tip off and its in her cot but she spits it straight out and looks at it so she wont even try to suck it (which is fine..) How long did it take to get through this phase for those who have tackled it? (DD is 11.5 months) Now I've started.. I dont want to stop... just feel awful!

I stopped my DD at 9 months - it had got to the stage where she only wanted 1 particular dummy and not even a new one of the same brand and type would work. She only wanted this one - no matter how much I washed it and sterilised it it smelt horrible so it had to go! The first night I was lucky - she had missed her daytime sleep - partly because she didnt have her dummy to suck / comfort herself until she fell asleep so she was shattered. This worked well - she went straight to sleep and didnt miss it. In the morning it was a different matter - she was like an addict - searching for anything to suck on. I remember she tried to go for the end of DH's nose. It was quite funny. Second night, there was crying and she made a fuss but went to sleep in the end, Third night - straight to sleep and never asked for it again or looked for it. Stick with it Wizzfizz - hopefully it wont take long for you either.

My DS had a dummy (pacifier) until he was around 2 and a half or so. He was a very difficult baby to settle and the only thing that worked was his dummy! I swore that no child of mine would ever have one LOL!! We talked about it and "agreed" that the dummy fairy would take it to poor babies far away! He settled fairly well after a couple of nights. Your LO is too young for such a conversation and I'm sure you have your reasons for wanting to take the dummy away now. I suppose it is like getting a baby to sleep through the night and hopefully she'll get used to going to sleep without her dummy. Good luck :)
