Having recently moved to Dubai and currently thinking about a brother or sister for our daughter, I'm faced with the dilemma of health Insurance. All of the quotes I have been given are in the region of 13,000-15,000 AED. They all have a waiting period of 12 months therefore you would be spending 26,000-30,000 anyway in the waiting period and throughout 40 weeks of pregnancy. I am already covered with MetAlico Health Insurance through my husbands work but of course it does not cover maternity. I am not sure really of how it all works here and hoping some of you may be able to help me. Do I need to have health insurance for Maternity ??? How do the maternity packages work in hospitals like City or American ?? Do you know of any shorter waiting periods??? Please provide me with what ever information you have got. Thank you expat women

Hi there, You do not need insurance to have a baby in Dubai. Without it you can purchase a maternity package. These vary in cost from hospital to hospital but you are looking at about 10,000dhs for a normal delivery, 2 night stay. You can also purchase antenatal packages. If you do a search on this forum you'll find there has previously been lots of discussions re package prices across the hospitals. Cheers!
