I went to Al wasl today and they said she is just gassy, but its weird how it just suddenly started 2-3days back.
I just checked the mayo clinic website and she has all symptoms of Infant Acid Reflux.
U mentioned that u bought infant gaviscon which is not available here.
I have someone flying in from the UK tonight and would like to buy it anyways (atho i wud only use it after talking to a medical professional). So does it have a brand name or something?
Please do let me know.

You don't need a prescription for Zantac or motillium here buy I would highly reccomend seeing a paed before starting your DD on the meds. I can HIGHLY recommend Dr Michael Loubser at Infinity Clinic on al Wasl. He has helped both my DS's through reflux. He knows his stuff. You may also be interested in taking DD to see a Cranial Osteopath. There is a branch in Uptown Mirdif. I tool DS 2 to see Lauren there. After 3 sessions he was a changed baby and we never even had to medicate him in the end.

Hi Shaf, I'm sorry to hear that your LO has reflux. It's quite awful for the little ones but hopefully is mild and the discomfort will be short lived by your LO. Probably the best ped to discuss infant reflux is Dr. Wasim at Northwest clinic. He's a pediatric gastroenterologist (sp?) and definitely knows his stuff. I would see him before you administer the Zantac, because dosage is very weight dependent. i.e. if you give too little it won't be effective at all, and obviously you don't want to give too much. Also note that some babies develop a tolerance towards zantac over time. Mine did and we had to switch to losec. We're still trying to grapple with the issues of oral aversion that reflux has caused, so again, I would stress seeing a ped for this ASAP. Hope your little girl gets better soon. x

She's got almost all symptoms, arching back, crying after burping, hoarse voice, incessant crying.. :( I finally called a relative who works for NHS and got a prescription for Zantac and Motillium which also helps GER. Fingers crossed.. i hope she is better soon. I dont think peds here even know what GER is. It doesnt exist in Dubai for sure.

Gaviscon creates a float on top of the milk, preventing it from travelling back up the oesophogous it is the mildest of the medications, and really only helps on its own, for mild GERD, but can be used in conjunction with zantac or losec.....I would only use Zantac or losec with perscription, just so you know the dose is right......do you have a good pediatrician that you can go to and say you want to try this......

DD had silent reflux, and I have to say so many ped's here have no idea about it. I think in this situation, you are best to try the medication and see if it works - it can take a few good weeks for you to notice a difference, because they associate pain with food, they need to loose that association

Sorry to highjack but I found this website that explains how each med works. I couldn't find which one was milder but it sounds like each one interacts with the stomach acid differently. So it will depend how the stomach acid is produced in your LO and if it rises up to their throat or sits in their stomach. Not sure but I think Gaviscon is milder and Personally I would not give Zantac without a doc prescription. Gaviscon is more like a thickening agent and helps to keep the milk down.
