Hi there,

My husband and I are almost certainly moving to Abu Dhabi from the UK in the next few weeks. I am currently 23 weeks pregnant with our first child, and we have some questions which I hope someone might be able to answer!

Firstly, has anyone else experienced moving to the UAE while pregnant? I am mildly concerned about how difficult it might be to get prenatal care, and whether this is something we should try to organise before moving or if we have to wait due to residency visas etc.? I know where I stand in the UK, being registered with my midwife and knowing when each appointment will be at various stages of the pregnancy. We have sent some enquiries out but have had no response! If anyone has any advice I'd be really grateful!

Secondly, we are wondering whether we should buy certain essentials in the UK before heading out...mainly the buggy/pram. We have found it difficult to find out which brands are sold in the UAE, and no websites seem to display prices!!

Thanks so much in advance,

Beth

if you are on an ad visa then medical insurance has to be included, not so with a dubai visa, only worker but most companies do include spouse etc. in abu dhabi they have the corniche hospital, which is a baby hospital, its been doing so for many many years in abu dhabi. you can open a file there for the birth, its a bit of a cattle market downstairs but if you are registered with midwifes then its much quicker, or go with dr tank at swedish medical center for all antenatal and corniche for the birth. corniche is the best as it has the scbu etc whereby other hospitals do not have the same etc.

That's great, thanks for your advice! We have looked into medical insurance a bit but will definitely get something sorted before heading out! Thanks again :-)

Hi Beth I'm in Dubai but would certainly recommend purchasing big ticket items in the uk and shipping them over as they are most certainly going to be more expensive in the UAE. Be sure that you have medical insurance which goes maternity otherwise you will either need to pay or use the public system (don't know what that is like in Abu Dhabi). You can make an appointment in advance but you may wish to sort out the insurance before you do.
