9 mo old DS has reduced peeing.. a lot.. 4-5 hrs and hardly once. he drinks very little water, i keep offering him the cup very often though but he rather plays with it. He is breastfed 4-5 times in a day, has 3 meals which is puree/ lumpy and yoghurt. should i consult paed?

i've posted same thread in Pregnancy, Babies forum too.. just expecting more viewing and probably a quicker reply here!

Yes,the older they get,the less pee diapers you have to change :) However once they start teething you will have a lot of poop diapers to deal with! Lol!

Thanks for replying ladies.. the urine wasn't smelling funny nor was darker in colour, the wetness of diaper was ok but just the frequency has reduced. today it was a diaper free day and i monitored and called the paed.. He said at this age baby's bladder starts to hold it back so not to worry if there are no other visible problems.

If the colour is not darker than normal then it should be ok. Perhaps you can put a drop of something in his water to encourage drinking......camomile?

I always err on the side of caution - cats and babies ( anyone actually!) should not be not peeing! Better safe than sorry!

Is his pee darker/smellier than usual? If so I might go and get him checked out just to be on the safe side. Otherwise I wouldn't worry too much about it, esp as he's breasfed (that insure his liquid intake if anything else).

How long has this been going on?? Have to say I've never been one to run to Docs and if he's well and eating/drinking ok I wouldn't worry unless it went on for a while. I have 3 kids and they all have different pee needs - one could save all day - so could just be that he's being 'normal for him'
