I have for th 3 months been able to put my son down in his cot n just leave him there and he would fall asleep on his own-no fuss. then 3 weeks ago he discovered that he could stand up,so everytime i would put him down he would get right up.. i then just to pick him up,pat him a bit on the back n put him down again, after 2,3 attemps of doing this he would finally fall asleep. then 2 weeks ago he got his first tooth, and a few days later the second,so obviously he was in pain and still is so i have continued to pick him up,pat n shush him to sleep as he would calm down whne picked up.. what happens with the good routine i had,is it all gone now? is this how i have to do from now on?

I think as well as illness and teething, babies seem to go through developmental stages where they are more emotionally needy and this effects sleep/routine, sometimes you just need to wait it out until they fell more secure again, my wee guy has gone through a few of these but they don't last that long. oh and Pentel, add "the neighbours kids on their trampoline, and kids in the playground at 10pm" to the list of things that can throw your babies sleep patterns. Call to prayer seems to be his alarm clock too :(

My son is just recoving from Rotavirus and his routine went to pot, the naps, the night, the settling alone -EVERYTHING! He is pretty much okay now and normality of the routine has been restored - all by him! ;) glad to read he's on the mend laurab.

routines are great until something upsets them, teething, illness, travel, development leaps, the curtains moving, the call to prayer, the cat meowing... all these things disturb my babys' routine! I just think it's easier not to stress and go with it "this is how she is this week" etc so some days I can put her down and she'll turn over and goto sleep, other days I need to stay with her until her eyelids droop and other days I have to pat her bottom or tummy for a few mins. If you had a good routine established, I'll bet that once your DS is feeling a little better he'll slip back into it easy enough.
