I noticed DD looked a little "uncomfortable" so I took a urine sample in to our clinic and it seems she has a very mild UTI. I'm still waiting for the culture test which will take another day but as she does not have a temp, they have suggested that all I do is increase her water intake for now and not let her swim for a few days. Apart from that I've also increased nappy changes and am leaving it off when I can for "airing". I'm all for not medicating unless we have to but it's awful seeing her so uncomfortable and she's just not herself at all :(

Thanks Ladies for your replies. abby_n_christina - spot on! Was going to post this am that I did some reading yesterday afternoon and came across a lot of suggestions for cranberry juice. A lot say don't dilute but she's still only on milk and water at this stage so I don't want her to get a sore tummy. Any idea what your Mom used to do? Jillp - no redness which is a good thing and we didn't do the dip stick test. I used one of those little bags you stick on under the nappy to collect the urine. Kwispiers - should get the results for the culture today but hoping the cranberry juice will do it so we can avoid meds. I know it's only juice but at least I feel like I'm trying something now...felt so helpless yesterday :( Thanks for all the advice x

get some URAL urinary alkalinisers to relieve any discomfort and help fight of the bugs, and if they do a test they should do a culture so that if you do give antibiotics they are the right ones.

Was the test done with a dip stick and it showed protein? If so it could also be thrush that she has insteade of a urine infection. Does she look red "down there" - if so - a little canesten cream might help.

my mom always advised 'cranberry juice' - fresh or bottled... supposedly it disallows bacteria to cling to the cell, which line the urinary tract.
