The weaning stages don't really exist any more, latest guidelines are that from 6 months you can give anything (from an allergy perspective). There s even some evidence to suggest delaying wheat past 8 months [u'>increases[/u'> risk of allergy. Same goes for eggs, fish, meat and other proteins, no need to delay anything out of risk of allergies.
If you are breastfeeding, best evidence is to introduce wheat before you stop, breastfeeding at the time that wheat is introduced (regardless of age) seems to have a protective effect.
That said, a "wheaty breakfast" isn't that great for a baby that small, they don't break down starches very well and can get a sore tummy/gas/constipation. Better to stick to simple carbs (fruits and non starchy vegies) as well as nutrient dense foods such as meat, eggs and dairy to ensure your baby is getting enough iron, zinc and other important micro-nutrients.
I am in the process of weaning my 6.5 month old and was wondering when I can introduce wheat?
In the guide I have it's in the 3rd stage and says a wheaty breakfast with fruit!
Any idea what I can give?
Thanks
