Hi,
Have a 2month old exclusively bf baby girl. Y'day i had to leave her behind with dh and maid as i had to go to office. I had breast milk expressed to be fed with playtexbottle (first time)with silicone nipple slow flow but she refused it outright and was screaming. I had to return immediately. I knowit will take some time before she accepts the bottle but any suggestions and experiences would def help. Im returning to work full time in a month. So need to practice it from now. Also is latex nipple better.

I also used the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature, but experimented with what seemed like hundreds! I weaned DD who was also exclusively breastfed onto bottles when i went back to work at 6 months, although was planning to do morning, lunchtime and bedtime breastfeeds . She had other ideas however, and within two weeks was totally refusing the breast. I was OK with that though. I was a cr@p expresser and formula just ended up working better for us when i went back.

I used the tommie-tippie closer to nature teats. I think I read somewhere to try and find whatever brand closest resembles your own nipples but personally none of them looked like mine! You don't really have a choice about introducing the bottle since you are going back to work, so there is no point in worrying about bottle breast preference. It might happen, my son rejected the breast at around the 3/4 month mark after only a few bottles and I had to take all bottles away permanently to get him back on. It doesn't always happen though. What you could try in order to avid this is not ever being the one to give the bottle to her so she learns that when YOU are feeding her only choice is by breast and that bottles are for when she is with someone else. Also try and stick to slow flow teats so she doesn't start to prefer how much faster it comes by bottle. <em>edited by kiwispiers on 14/05/2012</em>

I think it's not advisable when they are newborns as it can create nipple confusion before bf is established. Don't think that it was mistake with your son, it won't harm them even if they will refuse bf. It might have happen with your DS even if you were bf - some children give up bf easily and some nurse till they are over 2 y.o. (like mine :)) In your case it's rather necessity that your DD will get used to bottle, so just try different options and believe me, she won't starve herself :)

Thanks is it advisable that i give her the bottle as i have heard this is not recommended. I did this mistake with my son and he gave up drinking from me in the 5th month.

Each child is different, so would suggest you to experiment with different bottles and nipples. Also you might have to consider the baby position for feeding (some like to be on pillow, some on hands, some with back to parent in propped up position).

I love the NUK teats and prefer the silicone ones. You may need to try a few before she latches on to one that she likes. Avent also seems to be a popular choice.
