Ladies, DD is suffering from an ear infection again, second time in the last two months. We think it could be her molars but I've read teething may or may not have anything to do with it. She is on antibiotics once again. Doc said it could be anything.

What causes ear infections in your experience? She is very lethargic, eats little and is not her usual self. No sniffles or coughs, just in pain and very clingy. Is there anything that can be done to prevent ear infections from developing?

First thing I always say is 'are you sure it's an ear infection?' So many Drs jump at the diagnosis just because the ear drum is not 'textbook' and give antibiotics for it. If you are not sure, see an ENT who specializes in ears, not just any ENT and certainly not a GP. If you are sure, make sure the antibiotics are the right ones and taken for long enough. occurrence of an ear infection increases the likelihood of recurrence as the bugs leave behind a little something that increases the chances of another. Otherwise, other causes are genetics, allergies to dietary intake or airborne, being bottle fed lying down (if she is bottle fed still), insufficient nose blowing (if she is old enough), age (children are simply more susceptible due to anatomy and many grow out of it), smoking in the family home.
