Google's 2016 Year in Search showed us the top 10 searches in the UAE based on 5 categories, check them out

1. They are sports fanatics.
Football, cricket and the Olympics all being in the top general searches sure means we have a large amount of sports fans! Dare we include Pokemon Go in this? It made people walk around a lot after all...

2. They are intrigued by the death of celebrities.
Seven out of the top 10 people searched were public figures who died in 2016. Due to the highly publicised American elections, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were bound to make the list. The only other exception was Nizar Qabbani, a famous Syrian poet who was featured on Google Doodles in March.

3. The love action movies.
Especially super hereo ones! Will Smith was in Dubai to promote his movie Suicide Squad, so that likely played a factor in its rise to the top.

4. They have varied music tastes.
From Justin Beiber to Designer, popular Pop, Dance, R&B and Hip Hop songs all made the top 10 searches.

5. They like to be informed about the rest of the world.
From UK’s Brexit to India’s Holi to the Panama Papers, the top 10 searches shows they’re keeping up with what’s going on in the rest of the world.
