About Makani and How it Can Help You
You've probably seen the Makani stickers in your lobby at home or at work, or even in the mall... But what does it mean, and how can it help you?
If you haven't already heard of this initiative in Dubai, there's no doubt you're going to be noticing it more and more in and around the city over the coming months.
Previously found primarily in malls and commercial buildings, Makani is now making its way to residential homes and apartment blocks. So if you live in a villa in JVC for instance, or Dubai Sports City and other areas, you'll no doubt find your home decorated with its own new Makani sticker.
What is Makani?
Meaning 'my location' in Arabic, the Makani system registers every building, house and public place across Dubai with its own unique number to help residents and tourists identify their location and then share it.
Similar to the well-known Postcode system in the UK, or Zipcode in the US, Makani goes that extra bit further and helps users find a -specific- building they're seeking, as opposed to just an area.
Why do we need Makani?
Traditionally, and we're sure everyone will agree, travelling around Dubai is often fraught with U-turns, diversions and lots of driving in the wrong direction. The infrastructure of Dubai's roads is ever-changing at a rapid pace, so much so that sometimes Google Maps doesn't quite catch up.
However now with Makani, you'll find your desired location a lot easier and a have a less stressful journey!
Plus, it's very handy to have if you're using RTA's taxis to get to your destination.

Is there an app?
Yes, there is - which we rated 5/5 for ease of use and handiness. To fully make use of the Makani system, you need to download the smartphone application, which is available on Android, iPhones and Google Play. It can also be used on tablets, as well as your desktop and/or laptop plus other GPS devices due to an auto-conversion feature it has.
In order to find the Makani number for your own home, just download the app or visit www.makani.ae, insert your address in its traditional format, using your area name, street name/number and villa/building number, and then it will provide you with the 10 digit number assigned to that location.
You can download the Makani app here: App Store / Google Play
