Find out if you are included in the category of people who are eligible for free coronavirus tests in the UAE.

As the nation continues to mass test residents, citizens, and visitors for Covid-19, there are those who may be wondering just how much the test costs.

What comes as relieving news for some in the UAE, there are certain groups in the country who are able to get a Covid-19 test free of charge.

On May 12, the Emirates news agency WAM. ae reported that starting next week, the following are eligible for coronavirus tests at no costs.

  • Emirati citizens
  • Domestic workers for Emirati employers/sponsors
  • Emiratis and UAE residents who are pregnant
  • UAE residents above the age of 50
  • UAE residents who have been in close contact with a confirmed patient

In Abu Dhabi, a Covid-19 test is also free for those with chronic medical conditions and patients displaying coronavirus symptoms.

Otherwise, a test can cost up to AED 370 in the UAE.

The move is in line with directives from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to provide tests for some people groups for free. It is part of the strict precautionary measures the UAE is taking to fight against the pandemic’s spread.
