To renew your vehicle registration in Dubai, the city's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) provide vehicle owners with several, easy options to choose from.

Before we get started on how to complete your RTA vehicle renewal and renew your vehicle registration in Dubai, it's worth noting that the procedure for vehicle registration renewals may vary depending on the vehicle's age and the vehicle's purpose - i.e. if it's private, or for commercial use.

When should you renew your car registration in Dubai

A vehicle's registration can be renewed in Dubai 30 days prior to the date of expiry. After the vehicle expiry date there is a 30 day period to renew the registration without any fines except driving fees.

After that period a monthly late registration fine will apply in addition to monthly driving fees that start from the date of the vehicle registration expiry.

Lastly, a vehicle registration will be cancelled if not renewed after 3 years.

Options for vehicle registration renewal in Dubai

There are three available renewal processes for car registration renewal for vehicle owners in Dubai; online, the RTA's call center or through a trusted insurer.

Once your car renewal in Dubai is complete, you should receive a temporary registration to allow you to immediately drive your car. During the process, you'll choose how to receive your new registration card; via courier, collection from he RTA or even deliver to you PO Box.

Here are the steps to take to renew your Dubai vehicle's registration online via the RTA's website:

  • Pass the vehicle technical inspection test, if the vehicle is commercially used or over 3 years old
  • Contact your insurance company to renew your vehicle insurance
  • Login to www.rta.ae, select 'Drivers & Vehicles', then input your RTA user ID and password
  • Pay all fines and fees via e-payment
  • Immediately print your temporary registration notice and keep it in your car
  • Arrange to receive the permanent registration card by courier or collect it from your PO Box or RTA

Here are the steps to take to renew your Dubai vehicle's registration via a trusted agent, approved by the RTA:

  • Pass the vehicle technical inspection test, if the vehicle is commercially used or over 3 years old

  • Pay all fines and fees via e-payment
  • Immediately print your temporary registration notice and keep it in your car
  • Arrange to receive the permanent registration card by courier or collect it from your PO Box or RTA

Here are the steps to take to renew your Dubai vehicle's registration via the RTA call center:

  • Pass the vehicle technical inspection test, if the vehicle is commercially used or over 3 years old
  • Contact your insurance company to renew your vehicle insurance
  • Call RTA on 800 9090 and select licensing services to speak to an operator
  • Pay all fines and fees
  • Immediately print your temporary registration notice and keep it in your car
  • Arrange to receive the permanent registration card by courier or collect it from your PO Box or RTA
