If you're planning your next holiday soon, and you hold a UAE driving licence - you may want to consider any of the below countries, especially if you enjoy the benefits of being able to drive while travelling. We wouldn't blame you after all, as it's generally a lot more affordable.
Now, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, your UAE driver's licence is now recognised in over 50 countries.
Previously, the list of countries the UAE driver's licence was accepted was restricted to just 12 locations; Luxembourg, Portugal, Lithuania, Serbia, Latvia, Denmark, Netherlands, Austria, Finland, Hungary and China.
The new list now includes several more, but some come with their own guidelines, we should add.
Arab countries that accept a UAE driving licence for tourists/visitors
In the Gulf, five countries accept a UAE driver's licence, and it is treated as if it is a UAE licence and is valid for an unlimited period (or for as long as your actual licence lasts).
These countries include the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar.
To add, there are another 16 Arab countries that will accept an International Driving Licence that has been issued by the UAE, which can be used to drive a privately owned vehicle, or a rental car.
These countries include; Egypt, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Sudan, Somalia, Palestine, Lebanon, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Irag, Djibouti, Comoros and Mauritania.
Foreign countries that accept a UAE driving licence for tourists/visitors
To complete the list of 50 countries, the following foreign countries across the world also recognise the validity of the UAE driving licence... So if you're planning a trip to any of the below, you can have peace of mind knowing you'll have no issue hiring a car during your travels.
The list includes; Belgium, Spain, France, the United States of America, Italy, Germany, Denmark, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Slovakia, Ireland, Austria, Greece, Sweden, China, Poland, Canada, Turkey, Norway, Latvia, New Zealand, Serbia, South Africa, Finland, Hungary, Luxembourg, Portugal, Lithuania and Singapore.
