This seems to be the year of female empowerment at the 2018 edition of the Middle East Film and Comic Con. An ever-growing number of female celebrities and entrepreneurs will be attending this year’s event. From Emirati business women to famous celebrities from Stranger Things and Dr. Who will all be at this year’s MEFCC.

Exhibitor’s to look out for this year:

Joumana Ismail

Joumana Ismail is a Syrian illustrator and character designer who is currently living in Dubai, UAE. Joumana recently co-wrote Epilogue illustration & concept art of the Middle East with artist Ibrahem Swaid. She describes herself as a day dreamer obsessed with art, and enjoys observing coffee shop frequenters and having endless conversations with her characters.

Emma's Pop Multiverse

If you are a jewellery lover then you need to stop at this stand! The company was born from looking for a BB-8 pendant but not being able to find it. Emma eventually got tired of searching so decided to sit down with a jeweller and the company was born from there. Emma's Pop Multiverse is also a Dubai based and provides bespoke jewellery designs to customers.

501st legion

Catch a glimpse of your favourite Star Wars villains with the 501st Legion. Even though this isn’t a women’s only group, they have a good mix of both men and women dressing up as some as our most loved villains with a new 'good side' - which means more female characters. This is of course along with the storm troopers.

Maryam Khalid

Maryam is a local Emirati girl who will be showcasing her anime art in a distinct way at this year’s MEFCC. She is currently still studying but wants to start sharing her art work with more people.

Female celebrities and cos-players (that we know of) who will be making an appearance

Alodia Gosiengfiao

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Alodia, she was named one of the most influential women in the Philippine’s according to UNO Magazine. Alodia is a Filipino cosplayer, model, TV presenter, singer, and actress. She is one of the ambassadors and VJ for Animax-Asia known as the "Ani-mates".

Karen Gillan

All the Doctor Who fans will be excited to know that theAmy Pond actress is coming to Dubai! Karen Gillan has also appeared in the film JUMANJI and as Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. She will also be returning again this year for Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War.

Natalia Dyer

Natalie Dyer is best known for her role as "Nancy Wheeler" in the Netflix science fiction drama series Stranger Things. She started her career in 2009 in the Hannah M Montana: The Movie.

Natalie and the cast became co-winners for "Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series" at the 23rd Screen Actors Guild Awards show.

Natalie also appeared in the film After Darkness and will appear in Mountain Rest later this year.
