Now, Enjoy Free WiFi in Dubai "Tech Taxis"

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that passengers in Dubai will soon be able to enjoy free WiFi on board the new "Tech Taxis". The recent initiative provides customers with a package of services that supports the smart city drive, which included the launch of the e-hailing taxi service "Hala" available on the Careem app. (add see also of prev. article)

Once the taxi rider is connected to the car's internet, they can access [www.taxiconnect.ae] to access an array of digital services. One of these includes removing language barriers between you and the driver, as you can use the instant interpretation service to easily communicate with the driver's selected language.

Tech Taxi initiative also lets you track the path of your journey and share your current location or map with your relatives or friends. If you have foreign cash on you, you can also check out the latest currency exchange rates. Passengers can also rate the driver's performance, capture the taxi metre screen, and rate your satisfaction/happiness with the service.

First of its kind in the world

Khaled Al Awadi, Director of Transportation Systems at RTA’s Public Transport Agency, said, "The initiative highlights RTA’s efforts to rank Dubai the smartest city worldwide. ‘Tech Taxi’ initiative provides free WiFi in all taxis enabling riders to connect to the service via WiFi UAE network using their smartphones."

The initiative is the first of its kind in the world, offering customers a range of useful digital service with one link.

“It epitomises the keenness of Dubai Government to realize the Smart City initiative as well as several strategic goals of RTA namely: Smart Dubai, People Happiness and Advance RTA,” concluded Al Awadi.
