Dubai Arena is set to open in 2019

If you've been down to City Walk recently, you will surely have seen Dubai's newest arena.

With construction starting in 2016, the huge Dubai Arena is almost complete - and is on track for opening in 2019.

The stadium, built by developer Meraas, will be fully air-conditioned, and will be the largest all-purpose venue in the region.

Meraas has confirmed that the active-lit façade along with the panelled structure is now fully installed. Now work will begin on the external infrastructure and landscaping, including paving and parking - plus, the finishing touches are being made to the first of the venue's 46 hospitality suites, Khaleej Times reported.

The city's reputation as a place for world-class events

When complete, the arena will have the capacity to host 17,000 spectators at any one time, to watch and enjoy a variety of events including concerts, festivals, conferences and exhibitions as well as sporting events, like basketball, boxing, ice hockey and volleyball.

It will be the MENA region's largest all-purpose, air-conditioned indoor arena when finished - and we surely can't wait to see what events it brings to Dubai!

Fun facts about Dubai Arena

  • The roof structure weighs 4,000 tonnes - which is the equivalent of 7 Airbus A380s
  • The cranes used to build the arena can lift 1,600 tonnes - which is the same weight as 900 cars
  • Over 20 tonnes of paint has beenu sed for the mega-trusses... the same amount could paint 2,650 rooms
  • The 120 mega-trusses used are the equivalent of 5 tennis courts
  • And the 110 tonnes of production equipment used in the development is equal to that of 9 double decker buses

Abdulla Al Habbai, Group Chairman at Meraas, said: "Dubai Arena has been designed to enhance the city's reputation as a destination for world-class events and hospitality and will transform the industry throughout the Middle East.

We are confident that Dubai Arena will position the city on the international entertainment touring circuit and the audiences will have the opportunity to witness the world’s most talented performers and sporting events in the heart of Dubai."
