Please can anyone recomend where I can by items usually sold in a Haberdashery ie. cottons, buttons, ribbons, lace, generally make-it-yourself-stuff, I used to live in Dubai and go to Satwa where there were loads of places, is there something similar in Abu Dhabi - preferably off-the-island?

Thanks for any suggestions!

haven't made it to malik's yet but discovered that the 'Bookshop' store mawijili on route to city center had the basics wool needles buttons and sewing kits, machine sewing needles.

Hi, There is a smallish selection in the basement of Carrefour Airport Rd. There are many with a much bigger range on Island, behind the Gold Souk and Madinat Mall (cnr. 7th and 4th kinda thing). The shops are sprinkled through there. Just drive around and see. The Green Branch is in that same area but fronts the 7th. That has some unusual crafty things and a good yarn selection. Happy hunting. xx
