I'm on holiday in England (have been since last Thursday) and my husband got this text last night. It's making us sick with worry. Any ideas what it could be?

I've been a good girl I think, no gesticulating at other drivers, might have flashed someone to move over but not aggressively, other than that I don't remember doing anything naughty. What do they want? My car is currently (hopefully) tucked up safe and sound in our garage. I feel sick with worry about this. We fly in Friday morning.

That happened to me last year....had to go up to traffic police and see captain to plead my case....only good thing was that I had an arabic friend read charges....saw my plate no but name of charged written as mohammed....phew! I was accused of driving too fast on Al Saad St late one Friday night....like most people here, I avoid late night driving because of the nutters......after a bit of running around up at traffic dept, ended up with charges against me dropped. Looks like the cop had written down the wrong number plates...I hope!

Just as well you were actually out of the country & not just innocently sleeping in your bed at that time, otherwise you would probably still be held accountable for whatever the 'offence' was.

Thanks all and sorry for not listening to your attempts to calm me down! It all turned out, as predicted by DebK, to be a big misunderstanding. There was some complaint lodged about a car with my registration number at 130am on a Saturday morning - thankfully it was a day we weren't even in the country. We had a had time persuading them that our car was safely locked away with nobody else having access to it, but eventually they believed us (I think after checking our ID numbers to check we were out of the country). I don't know what would have happened had we not been out of the country, as they didn't seem very willing to accept that nobody from our household was driving the car at the time.

You've probably already sorted it, but can you take an Arabic speaking man with you? It will make things a lot smoother. In UAE I was taken to police because a taxi driver said that i'd run into him and caused all this damage to his car, (there wasn't a scratch on mine). The policeman told my husband they do it to get the taxis repaired at someone else's cost and knew exactly that he was lying but unless I wanted my car and passport taken until a courtcase to just pay the fine. I was fuming and just totally hacked off especially as cops knew exactly what the truth was, but needed my passport so just bent over. Good luck and hoping that all is OK..

I try to deal with it by seeing it as what I think it is - it's pretty sad and pathetic really if you always have to be in front of the queue, if it is that important to you. Plus, I have a choice - be one of those that gets so worked up and angry, and spend my time being really stressed. Personally I have enough of that in my day already. Good luck Amy - you've got lots of virtual friends here sending you good vibes!

Thanks. You know, the bullying doesn't normally bother me - I am a confident driver, I take it in my stride. I sometimes don't back down if they try and bully me out of the way or barge in front of me - I suspect that's what happened here and it's got someone's goat. I can't think of any incidents which stand out, but who knows. I wasn't taking any prisoners last week when I had to bomb up and down to Pampered Pets twice in 2 hours - it was probably that day, as if anyone tried to cut me up or get in front of me, I didn't let them as I was in too much of a hurry and too stressed. I didn't lose my rag with anyone though, or shout at anyone, or make any gestures, so if that's what I am being accused of I know it will be all lies. I will report back so that other people can learn from this. One thing is for sure though, if the police really do act on complaints against other drivers, I am going to start reporting every bullying incident from now on, instead of just letting it all wash over me like I normally do.

I'm with you on this one Amy. We've been here quite a long time & I detest driving here with a passion. I also never go out at night because the behaviour seems to get even worse after dark. We've just got back 2 hours ago from our holiday & on the way home from the airport, the taxi driver was cut up & screamed at by a local woman - I felt like telling him to turn around & go straight back to the airport :\: Hoping you get it all sorted tomorrow, you really do have my sympathy.

Amy77, I had exactly the same driving issues in Doha. In some respects driving is like a dangerous sport - quite fun, and endless amusement at the stupid driving behaviour. But every trip completely with out personal incident was seen as a relief. It certainly contributed to our decision to take our kids back home. I found the driving too hairy to want to go out at night, or to take the kids to activities. Though I was happy to drive, it was no pleasure. I still drive when I am out, but it worries me. I hope you get all this sorted out soon. Nothing like unknown to freak one out. Good luck, and keep us posted, so we can learn from it!

Sorry, I was in tears when I wrote my last post and feeling a bit emotional - we have a lot going on right now and this is the last straw. I am bullied most days, by people pushing in front of me, flashing lights at me and generally cutting me up - that's my experience and it occurs on a daily basis. The thread which really sticks in my mind was in the last couple of months and it was detailing a number of incidents of similar nature, including one member of the forum who was bullied on the Al Khor road and ended up in front of a judge after almost spending a weekend in jail. That's why I'm so worried. There were a few stories on that thread, mostly from women who had been wrongly accused of making verbal gestures and as it was their word against a local's, they had to suck it up and plead humility to be let off. That's why I'm worried. I haven't done anything wrong (I have been extra careful since *that* thread) and yet here I am being subject to a police investigation. It's not very nice and I really don't need it this week of all weeks.

Amy, I can understand that you are frustrated. However, I have lived here for nearly three years now and a member of the site for just as long. I don't recall reading an abundant amount of "horror" stories as you call them about people being accused of things they haven't done. Nor do I know anyone personally that works with myself or my husband who has ever been accused of anything they have not done. So although these things may happen, I don't think they are as common place as what you may be making them out to be. Secondly, as you have said that all you know is that a complaint has been registered against you but they won't say what or when I don't think that at this time you can suggest that you're being accused of something you did not do. Wouldn't knowing that require knowing what the complaint is? You may actually be working yourself up about something that turns out to be nothing. I have never been bullied here on or off the roads. Plus to be honest, I would have to suggest that the worst drivers on the road are not locals but are actually from a few other countries that I will not name because I do not wish to offend anyone who might be from those countries. Just remember that apologetic will go further than defensive.

So it turns out that someone has registered a complaint about me. They won't say what or when - we have to go back in the morning to find out. Am worried sick, I hate this country. Every day I put up with being bullied on the roads and now I have to defend myself against something I haven't even done.

Thanks. I just remember all the horror stories on here about people being accused of things they didn't even do and getting hauled in front of a judge and having to confess even though they didn't do it. That's what scares me.

Hi Amy, no need to panic , they wil not deport you or anything, just relax , and sort things out when you r back, whatever it is, it can be solved, either you pay your fine or clear things up.. :-) if you want to leave it behind your back then just call the police station and ask them what is itall about.. Mutrash is only an sms service not a police patrol, i know how it feel to receive a message from them. it is laways annoying even those EID greetings always terrify me at glance. but i came to know that things in doha are simpler and easier than what we imagin. and what if you have been naughty?? so what u had a trafic speed ticket? not the end of the world :-) ( my nightmare is to closs the red traffic light) 6000QR fine enjoy your holiday and stock up loads of movies for your husband rehabitation after surgeries , hope he get well soon after it

Thanks ladies. I'm still worried. Hubby still thinks I've been naughty, so I daren't bring it up with him again as I am trying not to think about it too much - therefore we haven't checked the Metrash website yet. It's not number plates. We thought it might be a mis-reported accident, as we also had an email from our insurance company yesterday about hire car usage, but it turned out to just be coincidence as it was only a courtesy email they occasionally send out to all customers. So we are defo in trouble with the police for something :( One possibility is that we haven't paid off some speeding fines yet which are a few months old. I hope it's that. The other is that I was driving around like a loon on Wednesday in a total panic - I took the dog to pampered pets, then forgot her tick treatments. So had to go all the way back to Parkview, who didnt have any in stock, and then QVC before making a mad dash back to pampered pets in less than 20 minutes before they closed. I don't remember any specific incidents, but I did speed a lot up the shamal road. I hate this. It's ruined our holiday and it's such bad timing as my husband is having surgery as soon as we get back.

I do hope it's nothing serious, but can understand how you feel at the moment. And couldn't a friend of yours search on the MOI website and see if you have a violation? They only need your car's registration. Isn't it spooky though how 'they' can find you! Evidently I did something wrong when I parked in the Handicapped parking spot at Landmark the other day: despite my mother being with me, and the wheelchair she has to use, and a (admittedly printed off the Internet) wheelchair / handicap sign on my car's dashboard. A day later my husband said 'Did you know you had a traffic violation? There's a sticker on your window.' It certainly wasn't there when we left Landmark, so they must have come to WB Lagoon that evening while we were out to put it on my car! How long does it take for a 'violation' to be posted on the MOI website? I look every day and so far I still have no violations ... But is it safe to ignore it, I wonder? And can I argue that I needed to park there because of my mother needing her wheelchair ...

It is worrisome, but since you are on a holiday - please enjoy your hols ! There is not much you can do from there… And you can always show them your tickets to prove that you were not in Qatar to respond immediately ! Whatever it is, it can't be that bad if you don't remember any incident specifically :)

Have you looked online? Any traffic violations?
