Thanks Busybee2 & Derien! Yes, fees are not late & I know they change things as they like but thought perhaps others were having the same issues. I've emailed them saying it's illegal & that I will be looking into it and now haven't heard a thing back - so am hoping (yes, I know - maybe a crazy hope!) that they'll give it up. Just sad that they'll try anything to make money for themselves - greedier than most!

I think what bee27 is trying to say is that Aldar is charging her for the fact that she has not provided the 2 post dated cheques as per their rules, not for the fact the fees are late ( which I assume they are not) That would be illegal anywhere else in the world but here, as Busybee2 said, it's perfectly acceptable. That is why I would never buy anything edited by derien on 29/05/2012

Hi, Does anyone know whether or not it is legal for ALDAR to impose 'late fees' on unreceived post dated cheques? They implemented a 4 quarter payment plan for maintenance fees where you can pay by cheque. They are now saying that as they do not have the last 2 remaining cheques (post dated) that they are charging late fees. How can they charge late fees for money that is yet to be collected? We pay all of our fees on time, every time for each property we own (yes, we know we're very very lucky to be in this position!). It just gets me that 'they' feel they can have their own laws and rules. Besides this, we have had to find our own tenant from the beginning until now & they released bond/deposit payments before confirming the property was in good condition on hand over - between unpaid bills and cleaning fees, we're out of pocket again! Any advice on whom we should contact to confirm the illegality of this is greatly appreciated! unfortunately thats the way it is here, the rules change and you do not necessarily have the rules and regs to back you up, thats a risk of buying here. but if its like a contract for rent and you have signed a contract and agreed terms then surely they cannot just change it without notice etc. you will need to go a solicitor and/or rent committee in town.
