I need some advice please;
I have been working for the same company for 3 years, don't like the job but no choice so have continued. I am now trying to get pregnant and have decided if I do get pregnant then then I would work for a maximum of 6/8 months only and then finish working for good. The problem is I have just been offered another position (better salary, but longer hours). Do I take the plunge knowing I may (not yet pregnant) only be there for several months, or just keep my head down and carry on working at a place that makes me rather miserable?!

Rather than toss and turn all night, thinking what to do? I should have just come online earlier and asked you ladies! Thanks :)

Just tell yournew employer about your leave. Surely arrangements can be made.

A new employer usually shows a bit of flexibility on pre-booked leave, so it is worth checking with them. Also, it's in May, so it will be a good few months off. I agree with all the others. Take the new job! Congrats.

Maybe that is why it has been 6 months of trying without conceiving so far, cos I am so damn miserable most of the time! The other thing that makes me slightly nervous about taking the plunge is loosing out on leave for the first six months of starting a new job? as we have a holiday pre booked for May... ps I appreciate the honest advice, thanks EW members

Take the new job... a better salary for 6/7 months is a better salary, plus if you are happy in work it may be easier to get pregnant :) You never know where life will take you, don't put an opportunity aside for the hopes of another plan just in case, if the new opportunity doesn't really affect you reaching your goal, in your case getting pregnant then there's no reason not to do it. Plus you can be an asset to the company for 6/7 months until you go. Besides if you don't get pregnant as soon as you hope you could be there for a year or more anyway, or on the flip side stuck in the job you don't like for a year or more wishing you had taken the other job and getting frustrated that you didn't.... edited by AdviceSeeker on 05/01/2011

I think you should take the plunge. First of all it could take you longer than expected to get pregnant and being miserable in your job won't help and if you enjoy the new job you may even rethink your fututre plans anyway and go back to work after the baby.
