The thought of driving in Doha is daunting enough, without the added complication of having to adjust to driving on the right hand side of the ride. Just wondering how the rest of you have managed with this, if your country of origin (like mine) drives on the left?

I have to agree that it's actually pretty easy when driving on most of the roads as long as you remember that you sit nearest to the centre of the road. That said my DH has turned a corner and driven into the oncoming traffic - they madly flashed their lights at us and then started to laugh (obviously at the dumb white people driving on the wrong side of the road).

Driving on the right side seems more natural somehow, you get used to it pretty quick. As for the crazy driving you just have to expect the unexpected and have eyes everywhere.

believe it or not you get used to it very very quickly and when you return to you country like i do to Ireland I have to think about it !!! Just very embarrassing when you get into the the right hand side of the car and there is no steering wheel!!

funnily enough we saw someone going the wrong way around a roundabout on the way to school this morning - in the Al Azizya area, in a backroad just down from Salwa - anyone want to own up ;)

Well the single lane back roads are a bit of a free-for-all anyway, so it doesn't really matter if you're on the wrong side of the road .............[i'>just kidding!!!![/i'>

The thing that helps me is to remember that the driver should be close to the middle of the road. I don't find the roundabouts too bad, as like Kimmc3 says you are too busy trying to avoid the idiots, and you are all going the same way - it's when you are on the backstreets that I find difficult!

Don't worry about it! Somehow with the driver's side of the car also being the opposite to what I was used to, it all felt quite natural! In fact when I was back in Scotland last year I really had to concentrate hard when I was driving, it felt very unnatural to be back on the left hand side of the road. Except when you get in the wrong side of the car and wonder where the steering wheel has gone I used to drive a right hand driver car in Germany then at work there switch to a lefthand drive car confused.com on a daily basis Most cars here are automatic so point and press lol

aaaah....my favorite topic 'Driving in Doha'........ *pulls up a chair* No seriously, you won't really notice right-hand lane driving all that much as most of the roads tend to be dual-carriageways. The traffic lights also only allow one direction at a time (which is why you will spend most of your years here waiting for traffic lights to change). The only big difference is the roundabouts going the other way around, but you'll be too busy trying to dodge the idiots doing the stupidest things to notice which way the roundabout is going. edited by kimmc3 on 06/02/2013
