Hello Ladies,

We are a family of 5 with children ages 3, 6 &16 yrs old. We will arrive in Abu Dhabi Sept 22. Do any of you wonderful ladies have any tips for flying with young children? We have only been on short (2hr) flights with children in the past. Our total travel time including layovers is 26hr.......

Also our budget is 140000-160000dhm for housing allowance, what area would you recommend for that type of budget ideally 3-4bedrooms. I will work in Mafraq hospital so realize I may have to commute for work.

Looking forward to some coffee meetup dates when we arrive:)

Hello. I am also from Canada originally but lived in the States for the past five years. Anyways, in terms of flying with children - I guess the concern will be the 3 year old since the 6 and 16 can just watch t.v. or sleep. I flew with my two year and 20 days old twice and both times the infant slept most of the time but the toddler was restless. She does not watch t.v. either so it made things harder. Keep snacks and little games close by. Get things from the dollar store that way you don't mind throwing away after the flight. We live in Khalifa City A. The villas are big and you get more for your money but it could be isolated. I would love to live in the city but at the same time I know we won't have the space we have now plus parking issues. Things we need are around so most of the time there is no need to head to the city. It is one of those things you have to see what is important to you and then decide if you want to be close to the city or live but outside but have bigger space...... kcb villas are usually bigger in space terms for less money and real close to mafraq.

Thanks for the replies ladies! I do like the look of the villas in KCB, my only concern would be lack of amenities. Do you find that Khalifa B is a bit isolated? I like the size and price of the villas there but don't want my family to feel isolated while I am at work. Is this walking distance to Mafraq hospital? Are there many families in the area? We have three children ages 3,6 & 16 they will all be doing homeschooling. Thanks this one you could walk to the hospital its not that far, but really u wouldnt want to do it in this heat. there is a bus that goes to the hospital. there are people that live in this compound that work at mafraq so you will find that if you live in kcb prob have some people there. lots of families same as any area but of course its all small compounds. kcb is not isolated if you have a car you can drive across the motorway and there are grocery shops and also the new babwat al sharq mall which is like 5 mins away even if you were in kca you are still isolated as you cant walk to the little shops they have there its too big so you would still need to drive 5/10 mins. my kids use the bus to get in and out of town when necessary and from sch. also taxis too. if you are going to be working in mafraq it defo is the first place to look. they will be building the infrastructure soon. i prefer kcb over kca (i lived there like over 10 years ago when there was nothing there so doesnt bother me) as we have street lights, kca dont, we have pavements, kca dont, we have drains, kca dont, and when it rains kca floods, kcb doesnt.

Best place for accommodation is Khalifa B you get more for your money.It's not far from All Mafraq.We live in a gated compound of 6 3 bedrooms all en-suite plus maids room and currently pay 125,000 Dhs per year.
