Thank you all SO much!! I've been off radar sorting out six tonnes of admin and remembered I had posted on here! Thanks for all the advice, I will definitely be in touch with you all as soon as I have some time to breath! I am moving over at the start of May and would love to meet up for some drinks and get to know so new people. I have a lot of friends in Dubai and hope it will be the same in AD. Thanks again ladies xx
Hi Poodle,
I know how you feel - I moved to Abu Dhabi straight from university in the UK a few months ago without ever having been to the UAE before. I'm not going to deny it, it was hard at first because I didn't know anyone.
Luckily though, there is a lovely bunch of people in Abu Dhabi who are very welcoming and, although they were hard to find at first, there is a younger crowd. Most of my friends are mid-20s to early 30s.
If you would like to meet up and have a drink (or two), let me know! I know AD's got a bad rep for being boring and slow but there is definite fun to be had - you just need to explore a bit.

the nicest properties with decent fittings for a 'cheaper' price tend to be off island unfortunately, Al Bandar at Raha Beach, 2 beds about 140-150k and prices still coming down and then Al Reef 2 bed villas for about 100-110k now. Reem Island is imminently due for completion that should offer slightly better quality altho what I saw of sun and sky tower it was no better than my 5 yr old low rise building in town.
Please bear in mind abu dhabi is about 3-4 yrs behind Dubai at least. Theres loads to do you just have to vary it a bit more and we desp lack that Marina or cluster style of nightlife but then taxis are dirt cheap between venues.
As much as I want a nice new modern place, and mines not that bad, im also thinking how cheap other things are on the island as its all subsidised. our Dewa bills are about 90dhs a month at the mo, estimates at bandar ive been told are about 2000k a month due to the district cooling there. I'll get my sea view at the corniche thanks! again if you email me budgets I'll happily give you indications of what yuo will get and where. or post on here.
Older style on island are anywhere between 80-90k upwards, new ones but tend to be smaller are about 120-130k + now. Sea views & facilities anywhere 180k upwards. and villas quite a bit more on island, cheapest ive seen are 250k.

Hi girls!
I'm 26 but, I'm a mommy so I'm not as fun :( ... although when my nanny comes, I'll be pretty free again. Anyway, we'll be moving to AD mid to late Feb and will be looking for housing there for 6 weeks, before we start looking in Dubai. I'm after an amazing bathroom+awesome kitchen...any suggestions?
LOL I have yet to see anything in Abu Dhabi with amazing bathrooms & awesome kitchens
my thought exactly:)
Poodle, I moved to AD last year, and find it boooring! Mainly because I was living in JBR and then Downtown in DXB, there is nothing similar to those here for any price!
I live in the Bein Al Jessrein (sp?) area, near Shangrila which was the best I could find in my budget (OK bathroom and awful kitchen I must say, lol). Can't complain about the area.
I jumped in but I am not 'young' (was considering myself as young until i saw what age you meant by young:D)

haha i'm of it too!!! didnt last at the houseparty! oops! 2 weeks still trumps my 1 week last year so I still won. I'm on damage limitation for now and doing your routine of I'm allowed to do it as long as done the exercise first. This run is gonna kill me!
I was gonna suggest we do something soon. We've only done 1 so need to get the tour de ladies night rolling again! I was thinking beginning of Feb? get us all organised again.
When do you move here Poodle?
Hey Poodle,
I am an ex Dubaian now living in AD, also mid twenties. I also moved for a job, and would definitely make the same decision again as I love my job and AD is not as bad as many people in Dubai seem to think (I had never been to AD befoe I came for my interviews here!) My main issue here is the shopping malls, total rubbish compaed to Dubai and you have to go to 3 or 4 malls to cover the same shopps you would get in MOE or Ibn in Dubai, but its not a huge deal as it means I spend less here than Dubai (but then I do have shopping binges in Dubai, lol!!)
I can't really help you with accomodation prices as mine is company provided, I am right on the Corniche and love my location as everything I need is a short taxi ride away, so depending on where your office is, staying 'on-island' is a good choice but is obviously more expensive. I understand rents have gone down so you should get something for a reasonable price (but you don't get as much for your money as you do in Dubai)
Have met up with lots of girlies in AD (inc. GG and the others) everyone is friendly and welcoming as we have all been in the same situation before, it's just the same as Dubai really, but there just seems to be less of us singles around, and lots more families.
I am off the wagon GG so whenever the next ladies night is, I am in! After killing myself at the gym first of course, then I will feel a little lets guilty about failing my detox resolution!!
Hey Poodle, Abu Dhabis really not as scary as people think. Obv living in town will be better for you whilst you get to know the place. Depends on your budget. Feel free to email me as I work with Real Est people so can try and help you.
Also if you want to make friends, I'm late twenties but working and not with kids etc so am trying to get another girly night out planned in the future, I'll put you on the email circular if you're interested in joining me and a few others that met via the boards. green(underscore)sarahm(at)yahoo(dot)co(dot)uk
any other q's feel free to ask, feel like I'm the oracle of all things Abu Dhabi these days!
Hello ladies!
I am currently living in Dubai but have been offered a position in Abu Dhabi, which is exciting, but scary as I have only been to Abu Dhabi a few times and know very little about the place!!
My main concern is where I should live - I am in my mid-twenties and want to live in a safe place where other young people live - also I don't want to spend the earth on rent and coming from Dubai, I realise rent prices are MUCH higher than I am used to!! Any ideas on where I should start?
Also, I'd be keen to find how people my age have found it socially and whether it is easy to meet people?
Any pearls of wisdom would be welcomed!!
