DD was born with overdried skin (apparently normal for 41 weeks) so at the beginning it was strictly water on cotton for nappy changes and a soap free bath maybe 2x/week. I was constantly rubbing her down with cetaphil lotion to help her dry skin.
We introduced Mustela shampoo/body wash at about 6 weeks old - but still only bathing her every few days. Now, 3.5 months, she gets a bath every two days and still only using Mustela. After every bath she gets a baby oil or olive oil rubdown/massage.
For nappies - i only use water on cotton for wet nappies. Since 12 weeks old, Number 2 nappies get a sensitve wipe. Sudocrem only when it appears a little red, or just before sleep as I also dont change her at night (unless she's done a No2). We've only ever used Pampers Premium Care.
So far, no rashes or any other skin issues. At every diaper change I let her hang out a big on her changing table over the clean diaper to let her skin dry a bit. If its moist or humid, i dont close up her nappy yet.

I have two boys one 3 1/2 and one 11months. Both used pampers here but huggies back home in Canada. Don't ask me why but they are different. Back home I found pampers useless, here I find huggies are. I'm with one of the other moms where after peeing I never wiped but after poos I used a wipe (pampers sensitive.)
Check the labels to make sure they are alcohol free as some of them contain them. My oldest DS never had a diaper rash, younger one had a fungal rash when he was born. It wasn't caught by the hospital dr right away so it kept coming back. He was prescribed a special cream for it. Otherwise I use vaseline after poos and after baths.... never an issue.
Don't use baby powder unless you make sure you point it away from the baby's face as they can inhale it. I used it only at the first sign of a rash.
I use baby lotion on LO after the bath so that his skin doesn't dry up.
Thankyou all , I will give up on the powder to see if that has any effect and also change my brand of diapers to something a bit more sensitive. I dont change her much during the night cause she takes a good hour to then fall back asleep and sleeps very short intervals during the day aswell. I have been leaving her open a few times a day since the last 4 or 5 days but hav'nt seen any difference yet. Though its making me wonder if I should attempt the cloth nappies
I was wondering about the same when DD was born and was given the following advice:
Use as little 'cosmetic products' as possible on their delicate skin.
I was also told that a newborn does not have to have a full bath every day, nappy area, hands and face should be of course cleaned , but to wash the whole baby with soap every day is not good for their skin. Full baths daily maybe from the time they actually get dirty, when they start to move around.
In the fist few weeks I just used water, or if on the go sensitive babywipes without perfume. I never used powder or baby lotion and nappy cream only when there was a rash - which actually never happened until DD started toilet training.I only used pH-neutral babywash , up until fairly recently when DD wanted to have a propper bubble bath.
She never had any rashes and I can strongly recommend to use as little as possible in order to keep their skin as uniritated as possible.
Do you mean dark as in dark red or as in a pigment change to brown? If it is the whole area I would suspect a reaction to the nappy itself. I don't change my baby during the night (or even thurn on the light if he does wake to feed) so he goes 12 hours without a change (not that he is doing poos in the night, we did have to change him when he was a newborn) but he has only ever had one very mild nappy rash in 10 months and it was when there were no huggies so we bought pampers. Pampers have a strong smell which I find off-putting and feel quite plasticy. For younger babies there are the pampers premium and huggies pure/natural/cotton (or something like that) which I guess you could try. I have never used powder, just a wipe with a wet muslin cloth or a wipe washed in water when he was younger. Nowadays I only use wipes (non-perfumed) when he has done a poo, otherwise I just change the nappy every few hours by day. At 3 months he got about 30 minutes nappy of time outside each day. He has sudocream applied around his boy bits at night as a barrier.
Since birth he has only ever been washed with cetaphil, and we added a fragrance-free shampoo when he was about 6 months.
Hey can someone help me out with this?? Cause I'm panicking now. I have a three month old daughter and in the last couple of weeks I have noticed the part covered by her diaper is turning quite dark. I've been using regular pampers since the beginning. And use rash creme after every poo episode, each time I change her pamper with only urine I clean with a wipe and put on powder before I pack her up again. Although during the night I only change her once, and sometimes her diaper gets too full by the time I change it. has this happened to anyone else? Please help ...getting worried!
