I would like to stop smoking on 30 a day, have previously tried the patches and I gave up after a week, ,my daughter has bought me an electronic cigarette and just wondered whether this has worked for someone on here, I start tomorrow.

Many thanks.

Though not a smoker myself my dad smoked since he was 7 and gave up last year at the age of 64. He spent one hour doing something called bio reprogramming. He had absolutely no personal desire to give up but it has worked (needed to give up cos of my mum's health). My two aunts - who used to get up in the night to get a fix - have also given up with this method. I am sure it must be available here in Dubai but otherwise it is available in the UK. Have no clue what it involves but my dad described it as a method of filling up the 'holes of addiction' in the body... which probably makes it sound mumbo jumbo but seriously it has worked for him.

I thought I heard on the radio the other day that they were banning the electric cigarette here, as they claim it's not helping the stop smoking situation. Not sure if it's true or not though.

My brother was a heavy smoker and tried all sorts to give up cigarettes. He went to a hypnotist c 6 months ago and hasn't smoked a cigarette, or had the urge to smoke a cigarette, since then. Initially, he was a bit irritable but with time is back to his old self again.

Thanks, I am hoping that this time I pack in for good and willing to try anything, I thought about my Christmas in the UK and cannot believe that I stood outside my back door in freezing temperatures just so I could get my fix!

The first time I quit I found playing with a straw helped... cut it to the size of the cigarette, fiddled with it, "smoked" it etc I thought it did help. So I am sure your electronic one will also help. The second time I quit I did so cold turkey but I was only on 10 a day so it wasn't too hard, although 7 years later and I still need something to fiddle with LOL When we are in a restaurant I usually spend my time playing with the paper from the straw... drives DH dilly

I had never heard of them so I looked it up (I am nosey), it does say it can help. Good luck and don't forget to save the dirhams you don't spend on cigarettes to buy yourself a 'well done' pressie. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_cigarette

Nothing to add except "good luck" -- it's a tough habit to break, but one worth trying.

Lol it looks like a regular cigarette but a little heavier and you puff on it as a substitute, I thought I would give this a go as I feel that to start with I need something in my hand as I don't think I can go cold turkey, it is rechargeable and comes with cartridges that look like a cigarette tip.
