Car purchase dilemma
I was wondering if anyone could help with this? I'll try to keep the issue as uncomplicated as possible so if there are any questions then please ask.
My Domestic Servant and her husband purchased a car from a friend last year. The agreement was that once they had paid the loan off in the friends name that they would transfer the car into the new owners name. They completed the car payments at the beginning of September 2010 and have a letter to state that the car has been paid off, however, before the transfer of the car registration was completed the owner suffered a fatal heart attack. On the 31/12/10 the car was impounded (without my domestic worker's knowledge) by the police as the decease man must have had outstanding personal loans and we assume that the bank is reclaiming assets to recover money owing.
*The original documents proving final payment of the vehicle between the decease owner and the new owner are in the car to which my maid has no access. The reason that the documents are in the car was to show the police in the even that they were stopped and questioned. Papers are also held in the car as my maid's husband is in the process of transferring the car registration through the court system.
*My maid's husband depends on this car to get to work. He is currently having to take a taxi to work as there no convenient public transport that doesn't require him to leave home 4hrs early to make it to work on time.
*They went to the Dubai Courts today and were sent on a run around (getting papers typed up in Arabic etc) and then were asked to pay 7.5% of the value of the "Claim". They were further informed that the entire process may take between 6month to 1yrs before it is resolved.
Anybody with any knowledge of how the system works and how they are to proceed would be greatly appreciated.
