One of my two guests coming in three weeks got their visa from hOttawa today.

"I sent it FedEx on Jan 4th, they received it on the 5th, I included a SASE so it comes back via Canada Post. The date of visa issue is the 9th, (and it's good for 60 days?) so I guess that's when they processed it, and then 4 days to get back to me."

CanadianInDXB We have a friend coming in on Feb 4th and since the friend isn't staying at a hotel or flying emirates we have to sponsor him. We've spoken to everyone under the sun, Abu Dhabi Canadian consulate, Abu Dhabi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dubai Ministry of Foreign Affairs---everyone tells us a different story and sends us to someone else. The latest is the Ministry of Immigration is supposed to know more about it. Since our Canadian friend is living in Sweden he doesn't think he can do any of this thru the Ottawa one?? ANY help would be fantastic ;) I went through a few websites and found this ...finally lol.....your friend need to contact the UAE CONSULATE in Sweden to obtain a visa. ANY help would be fantastic ;) Same happened to us but unfortunately, I didn't know I had to sponsor my sister in time and it was too late...she got to the airport (on the 1st of Jan BTW-so there was literally NO INFO at this time) thinking would have the same assistance with the visas as Emirates and she was turned away. She was here on a stopover only going to Cairo so the extra effort wasn't worth it but we were annoyed that there was so little information and that we had spent so much time trying to get the correct info but still screwed up!

Surely they would be able to help. I can't see why hOttawa wouldn't help - other than he has to send a self-addressed stamped envelope - if he could figure out a way to get it from hOttawa to Sweden once it's processed - after all, he is Canadian...it shouldn't matter where it's received.

Actually we submitted everything and then they came back asking me to provide my birth certificate proving that my mum was my mum!? Anyways, we paid 2150 for a visit visa for a maximum duration of 3 months stay. SueB - I know! I can't believe I voted for him! EEK

http://www.uae-embassy.com/Visas.html My mom is currently preparing the docs and we just had to give her some info regarding my husbands residence visa (UID number, passport number, occupation, company that supplies the visa etc. and our address and phone number) and she seems to have all she needs. It takes three weeks, and if you're friend is out of Canada it may take longer though you can fedex the info. So far we haven't had to do anything from our end other than supply my mom with our visa details, but she did just start the process yesterday so who knows. Some people are saying it took less than three weeks but the agent they spoke to said it's terribly unorganized so to give yourself three weeks. It (the visa) is cheaper if you fly emirates or ettihad, however the amount you save on the visa is made up for with the higher price of a airline ticket. My parents are paying the full visa price but are taking cheaper air travel, so really in the end it's all the same... plus it depends on where you're travelling from. We live somewhere that requires two or three legs of the journey, so it was more expensive to fly emirates and try to save on the visa than just finding cheaper connections and paying full visa costs... hope i'm making some sort of sense here!!

And cheaper. Visa through dnrd = dhs 675 ++ ( typing/knowledge/admin+drop off @ airport) + deposit. Visa through emirates = 275 and its electronic.

They bought their tickets long before this cr*p started and saved a boatload of money by not flying EK...even after paying for the visas - but flying with EK is certainly easier all the way 'round!

we applied for one here and when my mum was coming, it was tagged to her ticket (via Emirates). She didnt' need the hard copy though they did email it to her.
