I really am in shock. I can't believe it.

1) I have to pay 500 for connection (DEWA, DU and Showtime all seem to manage to connect you for 100)
2) I have to pay 1000 for a deposit
3) Then I have to pay 50 dirhams standing charge [b]every month[/b]
4) Then pay for metered gas consumption on top

Lootah BC Gas seems to have a monopoly as no one else is allowed to supply gas to Jumeriah Village.

I'm soooooo angry. In 5 years I've used 2 medium sized gas bottles which cost 80 each.

What to do?

I just called them and they said 640 for a big gas bottle and connection (it has to be a big one for it to work). The refill would be 240. It feels a bit like everyone's just making it all up. Thanks for the great tip Zoeesta :0)

Finally got the number! The company we use is called Alfehadi, 050 467 0043. They also did the connection for us and will deliver here no problem. The connection cost 500 dhs and that included a medium cylinder of gas, refills are around 115 dhs. Even if the security tries to stop any company that you want to work for you, they have no rights to do so!! They are not the police and therefore have no rights. On another note, the police in Dubai have stated that you can complain to the RTA about the mess ups in the roads near to Districts 7 and 8 and you are fully within your rights to remove the bollards and barriers. Nakheel cannot fine you or cause any problems for you whatsoever as they have no authority to do so. This information comes from reliable sources!

Dont bother complaining to Nakheel, have you checked to see who their Chairman is! My understanding is that Royal Gas were contracted by Lootah but they were doing such a bad job that Lootah took over. My opinion is that all Nakheel projects will soon be the same as far as Gas supply goes. The only option if you want to avoid this situation and expence is to cook with electric. I just paid up with Royal gas who connected my flat in Al Warqaa....i had 1 bill in the two years i was there! i disconnected and settled the connection getting my refund back, but on questioning why didnt i get bills and why didnt you collect, they just looked blankly and said we had the deposit......brilliant..... thankfully it looks like in Ghoroob you can get any tom dick or harry to install a gas bottle....little concerning seeing its an apartment complex!!!

FYI :) as per Lootah Gas today. Based on the latest update from our Operations and Maintenance, we will be able to supply the gas in Jumeirah Village South Triangle in 4-6 weeks time. We are in the process of completing all the required documents from Dubai Authorities. We will get in touch with you again as soon as we have update. We trust for your patience and understanding.

We have lived in JVS since March 2010 and paying 50 per month for this Lootah ****. I am really thinking about tossing the empty cylinder back at them in a few months and getting my own connection. They already setup the cage in my garage to keep the bottle and all the piping is there so whats stopping me from getting my own cylinder? We own our own house with no bank loan so am going to get my own cylinder setup!

Just been looking around and noticed that only half residents have the big gas bottles outside. Looks like everyone has found there own way of doing things. Obviously it's not allowed to put a small gas bottle of your own inside the house and connect it to the cooker ;0)

its not on the meter. the box is just there but if u look closely the wires are not connected. you can attach another bottle like we did but be aware that loother "robbing b*stards" gas come round and check and may do to you what they did to us

They have now taken over from Royal Gas who used to supply the Palm Jumeriah. They knocked my door last week saying that we had an unpaid invoice dating back to September so glad I kept the receipt slip confirming payment.

tell me about it !!!! when we first moved in nearly 1 year ago, other gas companies were allowed in so we used them ....due to the 1500dhs for a bottle!!!! then suddenly we had not gas to the villa.........suspect me thinks! we have now had no gas into the villa for the last 6 months and are using electic hot plates and the bbq to cook with because nakheel wont allow anyone else in and speaking with the security guards...they get fined if they allowany other company in. we refuse to pay 1500 for a gas bottle!!!! if you find any way around it please let me know. Good luck xxxx
