Hi, today, I don't feel comfortable with such trivial subject as a new car...I feel guilty looking for your advice while so close to us in Egypt people try to survive...
My life is going on and we have decided finally to buy the second car. I would like to ask you about your opinion about KIA Sorento. I am interested mainly if it is a car we could rely on. How expensive is the service. What defects are typical. Would you recommend to buy or better forget? Thanks.

I've taken both my Kia and DH's Merc in there for various things like batteries and brake pads, and each time they've looked the price up in a book (reassuring!) and havent tried to upsell anything.

Good to hear about the price of tyres Pinks...i am due some in August. They were from the Fast Track garage at the Emarat petrol station just before Time Sq if that helps - I've always found the guys in there VERY helpful, quick, and good value - never any BS like at some places! Excellent...thats what you need...i hate it when you go somewhere and the guys look at you and think, another woman we can rip off! thanks for the info

Which model are you going for? i have a 2008 (previous model) and i totally love it and i would buy it again because for the price and the toys i got in it, nothing else came near. Now i dont even consider that i need to upgrade it, its does what i want from it....including being able to move flats twice since buying it! the back is cavernous! have used it off road and its really competant...ground clearance is not brilliant but was fine in the sand. i just had an interim service oil change job and it was around AED500, i think the last full service at 40K was around a thousand dirhams although you can get a service package. i understand some other vehicles only require a service every 10K km, under warranty Kia want thier cars in every 5000km. the only time i had to call out recovery was the battery dying at 2years 2days old....i have not had any other issues with it. Dealer is very good and booking a service never had to wait....in fact now, it seems you can just about drive up to the gate in the morning and ask for one!! the fuel tank could be bigger on the Sorento too, but from empty it costs about 120aed and that lasts me a week of commuting Mirdif to Al Quoz. Did some Kia research just over a year ago - couldn't find much difference at all between the Sorento or Sportage (bought a Sportage in the end as there was more choice on Dubizzle at the time) and have been very pleased ever since, especially the with pricing for servicing, parts and tyres. I use the dealership for servicing and have found them to be very good - I think I paid AED 700 for the last (non major) service, including engine flushing, and new tyres last week (Michelins) were 600 each. The only negative comment I could find about either car was that the gas tank could be bigger... I have to agree, but that's only because I drive to AD every day and have to therefore fill up twice a week. Would I buy the same car again? Definitely, unless my budget were bigger!
