My DD is in Pre-KG (US system) and turned 4 in November. The equivelant of this is FS1 in the UK system. They are the same level - but different styles as of course different curriculums. In Pre-KG they are just learning through creative play. She will go into KG1 in Sept this year.

As far as I was aware it's the same thing... just one is British and one American Curriculum. And it's all about learning through play. It's an introduction to more structured play and learning.

Is there a difference between KG1 and FS1? We went to a few schools to see KG1, and it seemed a little too academic for 3-4 year olds. Are they supposed to have literacy and numeracy books at KG1? Also, is the age at time of enrolment different? I heard some people say KG1 is meant to be at 4. I am pretty sure FS1 is meant to be at 3. In the UK, in FS1, kids don't do anything but play/read stories (basically learn through play). There is no writing and reading as far as I remember. Confused...please help!!
