hi ladies. son started to be sick with cough and fever. brought him to the doc on the very first day, was given antibiotic, cough meds, & fever med, on the 2nd day, I got sick but I got better with panadol only. on the 3rd day DH got sick, doc told him he had upper resp.tract infection (acute). On the 4th day, DH had still high fever, son too, brought son to Al wasl instead of the private clinic via our insurance. Al Wasl doc said continue with the antibiotic till 5th day, and added Zyrtec and Adol. The cough med from previous doc was scrapped. Last night until today, 5th day, son still had high fever. Now, daughter had fever too since last night. I cannot believe it that we have to suffer thru how many days of high fever, and have to wait for the antibiptic to take effect. The kids are suffering! Now I have to bring DD to doc too. Where do I bring her? Where do I bring DS since its 5th day and still no effect. I dont know what to do anymore. My DH was able to walk this am and says he has improved though.

There's a bug currently doing the rounds that has those same symptoms. High fever for 5 to 7 days. I caught it first then DD and DH. Highly contagious. Antibiotics don't help as it's viral. Can't really do much other than make yourselves as comfortable as possible... if the fever doesn't subside by 7 days I would revisit your doctor then. edited by lemondrops on 02/02/2011

Try Dr Ejaz Waseem at Medlink clinic. He is a specialist Peadiatric surgeon and has helped me a lot over the years.

Head to Coopers Health on Alwasl road...you'll be able to claim back on your insurance, and they will take walk ins (without an appointment) you may just have to wait a little while. Have the previous dr's prescribed calpol or nuerophen? an antibiotic on it's own(quite apart from the viral/bacteria issue) is not going to give any relief from fever.

If your son did not have a bacterial infection and it was viral, then the antibiotics would have weakened his immune system, and the virus will take longer to fight off. These days the viruses are going around plenty, and it is quite literally one after the other.
