We are heading back to Australia in July and thinking of stopping for a week in Thailand on the way back. Can anyone recommend where we should go?

We have 3 young children and want to go somewhere to relax for a week, do some touristy stuff but mainly to relax.

We have never been before so don't know where to start looking, any suggestions would be great!

We did a two week road trip around Thailand on the way back to Australia with the kids. I'd recommend Ayatthaya, the old capital of Siam. It's a couple of hours drive North of Bangkok and a great place to take the kids. Also further north a rain forrest resort about 50km out of Phitsanulok was lovely, saw the most beautiful temple ever in a mountain village there. Also Chiang Mai. Kids loved Bangkok too.

Can I suggest BALI!!!! I enjoyed it so much more than Thailand. I was there over Xmas and geez has this place transformed. I find Thailand dirty and smelly! If you look into Bali, stay in Seminyak!!!

Staying in a villa can be a nice option and in my opinion is the most relaxing holiday, especially with kids. For example check this out: http://www.villaserenaphuket.com/

Even Bangkok city is great. You can take your kids to various day tours like the crocodile farm, elephant caves, tiger temple, just so many places to see...

Hua Hin is a very nice place if you want to stay on the mainland. It's a couple of hours drive south of Bangkok. Chaweng beach on Koh Samui is great for kids as when the tide goes out there are lots of pools left for exploring. Even at high tide it is really not very deep at all.

make sure you go to the weekend market in bangkok and also the night market in bangkok. and make sure you will have no problem flying with the extra 20kg of stuff you will buy there :)
