Hi Debbie, We were there about 3 weeks ago, its fab, we went to Koggala near Galle, my advise would be get a driver and car, th roads are all single track, the drivers we had handled the manic traffic very well, think we would have found it hard. Also aim for a flight that lands in the middle of the night that way the roads are quite to get to your hotel, we landed at 330 on Ethiad, and we got to our hotel bt 730am if we had landed daytime it would have taken us 5/6 hours to do the same journey. I found a local man who arranged our transfers from the airport, and our trips out he was cheaper than the hotel and provided good quality. At Yala our vehicle was so much better than everyone elses. We stayed at The Fortress it was $270 a night but we found a hotel 10 mins walk to the beach called the flower garden with rooms from $59, I looked at them and they were lovely rooms with interconnecting family suites and very high spec bathrooms, think they were $99, but the manager said deals are always possible. If you want help to arranging stuff our guide Chandula would be more than happy to help, he can advise on hotels, trips, transfers, we want to go back and do Kandy, even though he is based in Koggala he said he can arrange it all for us.
