Hi,

I have been hearing that there is a legal annual pay increase that employers have to apply to all employees.

When we lived in Oman it was in the labour law with a fixed percentage but I can't find any printed evidence of this for the UAE/Dubai so was wondering if any of you might be able to help.

TIA

In Oman basic wages for Omanis have just been increased to a minimum of 200OMR per month. In the UAE there is no such increase BUT in Egypt there is a 7% annual increment in the Labour Law.

My OH has had no pay rise for 3 years. Times are hard, most would be grateful they have jobs, I know we are.

I was just having a conversation last night about the new generation of Dubai expats. Before it was well established professionals with their families, now it's 20 somethings who weren't that top in their country but are offered jobs in a much higher position here (because the companies can only offer X now which a real professional wouldn't accept, only a person who dreams to be that person and thinks 'wow they hired me'), so it's this new load of people who don't know what they're doing but have attitude because they do a job bigger than them and have convinced themselves they must be good enough for that job to have gotten it. [b'>That's a long explanation/summary of us Dubai expats![/b'> edited by AnonDubai on 10/03/2011 It's the new generation ones : ) (ok, not to stereotype - most. The ones who came just after the recession hit. The ones prior to that, dare I say it, were actually given the same job they had in their country before they came (or in the country they were otherwise living in i as an expat). And the stereotype for the expat who arrived here before the "boom" ?

I knew people who were told they were getting a pay decrease after the recession hit... does that count? Or allowances cut, there is some MOL rule that says a salary can not be cut, so i was told. Oh but it happened to so many people. They were told either take a pay cut or lose your job!

Actually this is the point we can all fall around laughing! LOL Even within the same company certain employees can get a pay rise and others not based on nationality! Not 100% sure why but I feel like you're laughing at me for asking the question. I thought this was a friendly informative forum....... :( I'm laughing at the remote possibility it could be true or even realistic.
