The toilet in my maids room doesnt get used at all and so sometimes the water in the bowl gets REALLY smelly and stangnant.....what can I do other than flush it reqularly?

Well if it's not being used, how about turning the water off to the cistern, flush it, then the loo is empty - no water to get smelly. The water is off, and the cistern is empty, but the water remains in the bowl....:( I'm using the maids room as my office, so its not pleasant Looks like I'll have to get the bog brush out and give it a good scrub with detol ;) Thanks ladies :)

Just clean and flush it once a week when you do the other cleaning. It would only take a minute if it's not being used. That's what I do for our spare bedroom loo when we don't have guests.

Hang one of those loo deodorisers [like a bloo loo or Harpic thingie'> in the cistern and yes, continue to flush regularly. Our maid's room is our storage room** [it's off the laundry room so has ironing, washing baskets, rarely-used kitchen appliances and, er, three fridges in it!!'> and like yours, the lav' isn't used at all, so that's my approach. You should also give it a proper scrub once a month with a bathroom cleaner [I use Dettol'>. ** Actually, scratch that.
