We actually had a gardener ask one time for an expensive bottle brand ( can't remember which one..)! edited by spongemonkey on 19/03/2011 Lol sm...I once had a workman ask for cold water, then refuse the brand new, unopened, chilled bottle I offered because it wasn't Brand XYZ. He pointed at his colleague's XYZ and said, "No Madam. Only same same like this." Really? This after I had made lunch for them and given them tea and baklava. Jeesh. Lol! Cheeky. edited by Appletiser on 19/03/2011

My maid gets bottled water but the gardener gets tap water! What the heck? We drink tap water in tea etc and cook in it. What's the big deal?

I'm still scratching my head over the original post. Weird that this madam can't stretch to giving her helper bottled water [as she should do'> but deigns to [i'>refrigerate[/i'> tap water for her instead. :D

disgusting. Bottled water is so cheap to buy here. What makes that other person think they are better than the maid that they are only worthy of tap water. Some people who live here really thnk they are something special. Back in their home country they probably never even had a maid and its just gone to their head now. i woouldnt be surprised if they just fed her the left over scraps of their dinner. Borders on abuse I like this post!

V P will you stop justifying yourself on such a minor matter . There are too many poster on EW who have a go at people all the time and think it is funny but they don't care they prevent many others who would have good things to contibute from doing so. Good you pointed out to her it was going abit far. It appears some posters have nothing else to do but post on EW all the time and not necessarily constructive posts. we used to have a chilled water dispenser outside our wall for ANYONE to get a drink from, but a construction site started taking the water by the bucket load for construction purposes and then one worker was found kicking the machine because the water was running to slow out of it....

I started giving the workmen tap water too after I saw them splashing it around and using it to wash their hands rather than use the outside tap.

Yet another example of where a maid is not deemed to be a human being. Appalling i hope you commented VP. I laughed at her and said she was being paranoid about ensuring the line was drawn and that the maid knew who she was!! Personally, all food and drink should be available to the maids. There must be nothing worse than watching others consume something you are not allowed. But it's interesting that you yourself gave workmen tap water and not bottled water........and why would that be interesting Claire? pls dont judge me, you have no idea.

Something that drives me mad when you have any workers is the non stop "panni madam" arhhhh. Hello, employers responsibility to supply not the customer!

I had 18 workmen building an extension, they were here all day for 3 months, and my machine could not fill up their bottles in time, it would not chill fast enough. They went through about 4 large masafi bottles each a day. So we saw they were drinking tap water anyway (which, by the way we do sometimes too, since my father set up the desalination plant here in DUbai, and he gets ****** when ppl drink mineral water). Just to add, I did cook them a meat or chicken biryani for lunch everyday, even though they had their tiffin boxes. edited by vero possumus on 19/03/2011

Imagine if she is that stingy with water-what is she like with food? I bet she gives the maid scraps. If you are that cheap with water-don't have a maid! Sorry, but I would expect that a maid should be able to eat and drink freely the same items the family do.

I'm interested to know how you reacted to her telling you. I think it's very sad the maid doesn't have the same water as she does. I give everyone bottled water

I was at someones house recently and she had seperate water bottles for the maid in the fridge. She said it was tap water. I have done this with workmen before, but only because there was so many of them... Opinions?
