Just want to let Lindiwe know, I use a debit card all the time, and I can only remember one time in the last few years when a shop said they did not take a debit card -- and apparently it was an issue with my bank's debit card only. I love debit cards.

It's a DEBIT card not a credit card... and it's a great way to help your kids learn how to budget and they don't have to take all their money with them when they go to the Mall etc. If they find something they like, they can draw the amount they require and pay for it in cash (not sure how many shops accept debit cards) Union National Bank does accounts for teens.

My kids have their own accounts, with ENBD and Emirates Islamic bank, no student ID, but parents are listed as guardians. They have debit cards.

Don't know if I fancy the idea of giving her an additional card on our a/c knowing how efficient the banks are here !! What does she need money for? Good way to start training your children. Wish I could have but not possible at the time. Earlier they start to learn the better I say, ( just like the muppets) Are you mad?????????????????? DS is a student here and was able to open an Emirates NBD A/C with no bank fees and doesn't even have to put money in it. He had so show a student ID
