I have to take my car to the garage this week to be repaired and they've told me it will take around 10 days! I don't want to be without a car for this amount of time so would like to hire one. I don't have any credit cards, but my friend said she will happily put the security deposit on hers and is happy to accompany me to the rental place to sign for it. However, the 2 companies I contacted so far won't allow this. Does anyone know of a car hire place that would allow it?
One company suggested her renting the car, and naming me as a driver but the problem is she doesn't drive thus doesn't have a licence!
Any suggestions of car rental places who would be willing to accommodate this are very welcome!

They can issue it within 24hrs. Unless they have changed procedures... edited by Appletiser on 10/04/2011 hahaha get one with 24hrs doubt it. when i wanted one it took months, because they then spelt the name wrongly and even though they hadnt even issued it they had to send that one out before they could do another one, we ended up with loads of cards on our account, all the wrong ones, the ones they send out anyways, which they then say why didnt we activate them, because we didnt ask for it!!! i wouldnt trust them to do it in 24 hrs.

I could do that, but I guess it will take a while for them to issue a card? Will it not? And my car isn't really driveable at the moment! So need it fixed urgently!

Go to your bank and get a credit card. Cancel the card afterwards if you wont be using it.
