Have visitors coming and would like to head up to Abu Dhabi to show them around and hopefully get to see inside Emirates Palace. Is it possible to just walk in and can anyone advise me on the quality and price for afternoon tea. Is it worth it and do you have to book in advance?

Thanks!

Great ideas, SA Babe and Adoz. Thanks for the suggestions. It will be their first trip to the Middle East, so I want them to have a good time and see the best the UAE has to offer. Hopefullly they will enjoy it. Thanks again to everyone!

There is also a revolving restaurant in AD Marina Mall - its in the tower at the back of the mall - Takes you to the 44th floor - takes about one hour to get a 360degree view I went with my 15 month old - with no reservation - the staff was great The prices are reasonable and they did not mind me feeding my litle munchin his own snacks There is a coffee shop on the 43rd floor - but this one doesnt revolve - still great view with a gppd selection of sandwiches

When we have visitors, the routine is to go to the grand Mosque first, which is rather amazing and then for high tea at the Emirates Palace. There is also a Mesopotamia exhibition on at Al Manarat on Saadiyat Island. There is a nice cafe there too as well as a history and future of Abu Dhabi display (very well done) ran by TDIC. Quite worth a visit I think. If you drive to Saadiyat via Yas Island, you could do a bit of a detour through Yas showing the F1 track, Ferrari world and the lovely hotels that are there now. Evening is lovely in the rooftop bar (can't remember what it's called) of the Yas Hotel. That is pretty much our routine when we have visitors! Hope you enjoy your time with your guests. xx

Thanks, julieanneb......sounds delicious. I am definitely going to give it a go now. Great idea of sharing too. I know I have had an afternoon tea in Dubai before and felt awful when I just couldn't eat it all and had to waste it. Thanks for the input all of you.

I've been to Emirates Palace several times with family and friends. The afternoon high tea is delicious. Whem I went with friends - there were 3 of us - we ordered 1 high tea and then an extra cup of tea for 2 - and there was more than enough for us to eat. Other people had ordered 1 high tea each and couldn't finish - lots of leftover cakes/sandwiches. So unless you are really hungry 1 high tea betwen 2 will be fine with an extra cup :) I went the other day in the morning on my own and had a pot of tea and croissants - it was heaven - comfy chair, paper and no one to disturb me. I will def do that again :)

Thanks so much sonomachic and nettie. Sounds like it might be a nice thing to do with visitors so I think we will make the effort to go, although coffee and desert would be more than enough for me, they might want to do the whole experience. Doubt if I will be passing by the gold ATM though ha ha. While I am on the subject. It has been years since I was last in Abu Dhabi, so are there any other major sites that you think we should visit while we are there. Thanks again.

You can just go and walk around to see the lobby of the hotel, the gold atm, and they have a bit of history and upcoming buildings in an exibit at the hotel as well. You will need reservations for tea and it is 200 AED (I think) per person. It comes with tea and coffee and three tiers of sweets. I went for tea and dessert at the hotel with my husband without a reservation on a week night. Desserts and coffee run about 45 AED each. Hope this helps. Have a good time.

I haven't been and I don't know if you have to book in advance, but I read somewhere it was very good and reasonably priced (sorry can't recall much more of what was said!) It might have been in Time Out.
