Like kiwispiers says its cheaper to buy a second single pump than a double. If I were you I would buy a single, see how you get on, and if you end up needing to pump more regularly then just buy a second then. I've ended up pumping pretty much from 6 weeks and DD's now nearly 5 mths and I just run two pumps at the same time. The benefits are if one fails on you, you still have another til you can get to the shops and purchase another.
I wish I'd bought a double, I hate giving up my "me" time to express. Weirdly sometimes the way the are priced here it would be cheaper to buy to single pumps and use at the same time ;)
I have a double pump and love it. In the beginning only used one to build up a supply in the freezer and for my husband to be able to give a bottle. Went back to work part time when my bubs was 3 months, so needed the extra milk, in case I was not able to keep up the pumping with her needs.
When she was 6 months I went back to full time and come home daily during lunch from 12-2. She is now on solids and gets regular food during lunch and then it is is really useful to be able to pump double, to keep up the supply.
I still have currently 5 liters in the freezer and am still replacing it with new pumped milk daily.
It's a hard one - but bear in mind, if you want to express early on and do a lot of it, a double is great. And you can always use only one side of a double (i.e. single) later on. However - as time progresses, your LO will mostly feed from one side, and to replace that feed by expressing you'll only need to express one side.
Hi Ladies,
I'm a FTM and looking at getting a breast pump. I'm planning to mostly BF but I like the idea of using a double to save time. Is that as as effective as it sounds? I figure if I'm expressing, I midas well get it done..
Would love to hear feedback from anyone with experience...
TIA
