Hi all,

Moving over to Abu Dhabi in August and starting getting bits and pieces together now, so excited! Just wondering what clothes would you recommend to bring with me? I have heard that clothes are quite expensive so was planning on stocking up here instead! Is this a good idea or should I wait and buy new things when I get over? Thanks in advance xx

Cant ever beat Primark Bikinis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(if your coming from UK?) You wear them so often and they get ruined so quickley that i just cant part with 50 quid(300 dirhams) for the ones you get here. So stock up well on bikinis, sarongs, flip flops etc. Underwear aswell, M and S mark up is terrible here and again because of the constant washing in the hard water out here, they dont last as long as in the Uk. I have just discovered, after almost 6 1/2 years of living here, a Shop and Ship account(but dont tell the DH....) It means you can have all your stores at home deliver to UAE for a small charge but even with that charge you still beat the prices out here. Goodluck with the move, hope all goes well, welcome to Abu Dhabi.

I went shopping at the weekend and was dissapointed to find that all the shops have started getting their winter stock in already! I find it really frustrating when I need to buy shorts etc and can't get them for 1/2 the year as they seem to think we want woolly jumpers, boots and coats. I would buy as much as you can in the sales. stock up on longer shorts, 3/4 length trousers, Tshirts and vest tops (built up ones, not strappy ones). Oh, and you can never have enough pairs of flipflops (well so I keep telling my DH anyway). You are arriving during Ramadan so more conservative clothing will be needed. If you are planning on working over here, it might be worth bringing a good stock of work wear with you, as I find it difficult to find here. Good luck with the move.

Hi Rainbow 11, It is a good idea, but it does depend on where you shop etc clothes from Next, Matalan, Debehams, M&S, Zara & new look are all a little pricier by about a third but some stuff is about the same, If you have the time I say get some shopping in before you come but there are some great bargains to be had out here depending on where you shop. A lot of people advise on wearing maxi dresses and it is good to have a couple in your wardrobe but alot of people do just wear anything they like but just cover their shoulders up with little shrug tops, or cover up with a pashmina etc, do you know where you are staying in AD yet, hope the move goes ok for you!
