Moving to Dubai while pregnant - any way to have medical insurance from day 1?
I am due to give birth in mid February and DH is starting work in Dubai (new assignment with his current employer) on the 1st of January (we will not be able to fly out to Dubai before mid December at the earliest as he has to wrap up work at his current job).
When DH agreed to move to Dubai his employer put in writing that they would cover all my maternity expenses but gave no further details and we did not probe further.
But of course, in order for me to have medical insurance I need my residence visa. And they now say that in order for them to apply for my residence visa, my husband needs to be physically in the UAE for at least a month (is this true?). So basically it now looks as if I will have to arrive in the UAE (and probably give birth) uninsured, pay cash for the birth & medical expenses and trust that they will reimburse us in full (my trust is running a little low right now as they seem very disorganised & to be honest completely disinterested in our situation..).
Plus as far as I am aware I will not be able to give birth at the public hospital (Al Wasl) if I arrive at 7 months pregnant as you have to buy an antenatal package in early pregnancy in order to give birth there. And I wouldn't even be able to get a health card without my residence permit.
I am finding this very stressful :( Has anyone ever been in a similar situation or does anyone have any clever suggestions I could pass on to DH to mention to his employer.....
Staying where I am to give birth is also not an option as our medical insurance here will end when DH moves to Dubai for the new job...
