Hi Ladies,
I have been looking around for a good car seat to purchase for our baby due in March. Preferably one from newborn to 3 years if possible. It'll be our first baby so we are a little stuck for what to look for in a car seat. Was so lucky to have the SIL from Australia visit and give me some tips but it also really opened my eyes to the lower standards of car seat safety here, or maybe I am looking in the wrong places.
We checked out Just Kidding and Mamas and Papas., plus a few other smaller stores. Most seats were not strapped in any more than what a really tightly clipped seatbelt provided, no straps to secure from the back or front, even the sales girl suggested we look for a better option (while rocking the chair side to side to demonstrate what might happen around a hard corner! eeek).
My SIL has offered to send one from Australia (safe n sound model) if I can't find anything better but surely there must be some good options here?
Any advice would be much appreciated!

Sweetlilly, what kind of car do you drive? We drive a Mitsubishi Infinity. Are you asking because you wonder if the seat will fit your car? We were told (and it says on the description in the ad) that they are a really great seat and fit the vast majority of cars. We've put it in our friend's cars as well and have never had a problem. It's nice and narrow and light-weight so it's easy to travel with. We love it.

I agree with Sweetlilly and GreenQueen. Do some research on rear facing car seats on the web and you'll find they are 5 times as safe as front facing car seats. In Sweden it is law to have your child rear-facing till at least the age of 4. The British Medical Journal recently wrote an article recommending all parents keep their children in rear-facing seats to the age of 4 at least. I had no idea about rear facing seats until I started doing some research. I will be ordering a Britax Hi-Way 2 from Sweden. For driving in Dubai it's the safest option and worth the extra expense. Sweetlilly, what kind of car do you drive?

GreenQueen is right, Hakan is great. :) He helped us choose one that fits well on airplanes and so we can travel really easy with it also. We ended up getting the Britax hi-way. We love it and my daughter has loads of leg room with it. We'll be buying from him again for the new bubs also. He ships here to the UAE and it was literally only a couple of days for ours to get here. We had a great experience with them.

I second SweetLily - although we used a regular MaxiCosi for DD until recently as I did not even know about the options of having a rear facing until 4-5 etc, when we switched her into the bigger seat now, we ordered from carseat.se Hakan is super helpful and will answer all your questions and queries and tell you which car seat would be right for you depending on your requirements and the size of your car etc.

Hi haven't found anything here that I would really trust. We bought ours from Carseat.se. They have extended rear facing seats and with the risk of road accidents here (one of the highest in the world - as I'm sure we all can tell) I plan to keep my daughter rear facing until at least 4. It is just so, so much safer. If you go to Carseat.se they have loads of information on how to choose a seat and what to look for. To be honest I would do that or go with the option of having your SIL bring one over. I just don't see anything here that is all that great. Hope that helps. (ps. we're due in March also. :))
